What’s it like to live in a Transfer Hub at UC Berkeley?
If you’re an incoming transfer worried about connecting with your new peers, or just looking for a space to interact, Transfer Hubs in UC Berkeley Housing complexes are a great space and opportunity for you to start. Transfer Hubs are on-campus living spaces mostly composed of transfer students, and that offer events and support designed to meet the needs of transfer students. Transfer Hubs can be found in Martinez Commons, Blackwell Hall, Unit 3, and the all-transfer campus apartment complex, Anchor House. Follow our guide, Cisco, on a little day-in-the-life tour to see if a Transfer Hub is where you might want to live.
Meet Cisco, Transfer Hub Resident Assistant
Cisco is an RA (Resident Assistant) for the Transfer Hub at Martinez Commons Residence Hall. In Cisco’s words, “being an RA means building community, being an event organizer, and a student, sometimes all in one day.”
Living in the residence halls provides quick and easy access to all the essential academic and personal amenities at Berkeley. As Cisco says, “Here you get the best of both worlds: you have a place to study when you need to lock in. But then you also get some social events (some that I host) and common places like lounges.”
Having an intentional space like the Transfer Hubs is great for integrating into the UC Berkeley community, as well as making friends with your neighbors. It’s a wonderful social and academic space where you can all relax or keep each other focused. And as Cisco said, there’s plenty of fun to be had! For example, Cisco organized a Global Passport Night, a night to get to know fellow residents better, like learning where they and their family are from and where they want to go in the future.
“Living in a Transfer Hub, whether it’s here in Martinez or in a different residence hall, it means you’re surrounded by people who actually get the transfer experience. Plus, being a transfer here means you still have access to the Transfer Student Center, in both the transfer-only campus apartment building, Anchor House, and the one on the main campus.”
